Hathersage – March 2017
We headed to Hathersage on a spare of the moment decision, however what we weren’t expecting was the impressive drive to get there, heading from the M1 we drove down the A61 and along the A616, before turning off south down Mortimer Road, which weaves its way through some beautiful scenery, but being quite narrow in places you have to be careful of oncoming traffic, especially as there are also many steep windy sections and we encountered loads of cyclists.

Arriving in Hathersage we turned off the main high street following the parking signs, the car park had about 25 spaces and it wa full, so we headed back around through the main high street, but couldn’t find any more car parks or available space on the road side, so we headed back to the car park and this time there was a space.

There’s a shortcut through past the Hathersage Methodist Church to get to the high street, we first walked up the high street and then back down and it’s not a massive place, so there’s not a lot of shops, however we noticed a sign for the St Michael and All Angels Church, so we headed along the lane. To get to the church you had to go through a gate and walk up a gravel path at the side of a field, it was a little steep, but after a few more gates, we arrived at the church. Most churches are right in the centre and although they are picturesque, the unique location of this church meant there were some lovely views of the countryside and village, but most of all it was so peaceful.

On a recommendation, we visited Cintra’s tearoom to stop for a cuppa and cake, it was a good size with a couple of tables out front, as well as inside, but it was such a nice day we sat outside at the rear. Sadly the service was very slow and it appeared there were only 2 young girls and an older lady working and none of them seemed to know what they were doing.

You can see the route we walked around Hathersage on our Walks page here
Matlock Bath - Last Visited May 2012
This is a great little place to visit and many people probably drive through, without realising what a beautiful place it is to stop for a walk down by the river, where there are also parks for the kids. The main road through the little village is lined with shops and restaurants. Heights of Abraham is an attraction within walking distance of the car park where we parked, which is at the train station. This cable car ride is not for everyone, which sadly includes me, therefore no fantastic tree top views, but if you don't mind your heights, then you can enjoy this is ride and take your own photos.

If you’re looking for shopping, then it's all about the Westfield Centre, which is quite big and has an excellent range of shops, for him and her, so look out for the array of gadget & big boy’s toys shops guys.

_ Denby Retail Park - Last Visit Dec 2011
Only a small place with a few shops, we visited Dec 2011 and there was a Xmas market on, but it was so busy, you couldn't look in the shops properly, which was disappointing.
