Flamingo Land

Visiting Flamingo land appealed to me, not being a fan of roller coasters, the combination of theme park and zoo satisfies both me and my wife. We were lucky enough to go on the first Sunday of September (2015) when it was at the end of the school holidays, so a little quieter, but it was a beautiful, hot sunny day and we had a voucher, so we paid just under £25 each.

There's a good selection of rides, like Hero, Velocity and Kamali for the thrill seekers and older kids and for the younger kids there are rides like Helitoys, an indoor soft play called HMS Bouncy and a great "water" land called Splosh, where the kids can safely run around under water jets, however not so good if the weather isn't hot enough to dry you quickly, the water ride Splash Battle was empty, we chose not to go on either, as we would have got drenched and the large dryers are not usually that good, but on another hotter day it would probably be one of the best rides to do.

Walking around the park was nice and it’s very easy to follow the park map that was provided (many parks have stopped providing maps or you have to buy a guide, but I always prefer a paper map), however you can take the weight off your feet with a train ride or there’s the cable cars for an alternative view of the whole park from above and three monorails.

Sadly we missed the 4D cinema, which I’m a fan of and we only managed a short lunch stop, with another short coffee break at one of the Costa cafes, although the staff were a little confused when my wife asked for an iced caramel latte cooler, which apparently they don’t do there because there a franchise??

My wife and her friend who came with us did manage to do a couple of the rides again, towards the end of our visit and generally the ride wait times weren’t too bad, however I would advise arriving for the park opening, as there is loads to do and see and not enough hours in the day to enjoy the experience properly, especially considering we didn’t have any kids with us or you can choose to visit again and maybe do the theme park area one visit and zoo area on another visit.

We would definitely like to visit again, but without the voucher it can be expensive at £37 per person, with a family ticket at £116 (prices Sept 2015), however it’s not as expensive as some other parks that don’t offer the same mix of attractions. We would like to see some improvements made, as there are signs of damage to some areas and although the park was due to close at 6pm, the kiosks and rides had closed at around 5pm, whereas we would have expected entry to rides to close at 5:30 to allow 30mins for anybody already queuing to get to go on the ride and the kiosks to stay open till at least 5:45, so you can grab a bite to eat as you walk out of the park.
